Wilma J. Fortune, 88, of High Point, died Tuesday, April 13, 2021.
Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Wilma attended nursing school at Spartanburg General Hospital, where she found her life's calling and met her future husband, Charlie. They made their home in Gastonia, Washington, DC, and later moved to Greensboro, where they raised two children and attended First Baptist Church.
Wilma loved caring for others, and shared her warm, kindhearted smile easily. She loved playing bridge, working crosswords, sewing and crocheting until her Parkinson's disease robbed her of her agility.
Preceded in death by her husband Charles G. Fortune, Wilma is survived by her sister Dena Watkins; her daughter Kaye Brinkley; her son Stewart Fortune and his wife Debra; her beloved grandchildren, Caitlin, Todd and his wife Susan; and her great granddaughter Charlie.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 3:00 pm Friday, April 16, 2021 at First Broad Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Tripp Queen will officiate.
