Theodore "Ted" Hunt, Jr., 78

Theodore "Ted"  Roosevelt Hunt, Jr., 78, of Golden Valley, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Hospice House of Forest City with family at his side.

Ted was born in Toluca, Cleveland County, NC on April 29, 1945. He was the son of the late Olive Jackson Hunt and Theodore Roosevelt Hunt, Sr. He spent the first few years of his life in the eastern part of North Carolina, until moving to Golden Valley. He was valedictorian of East Rutherford High School's first graduating class in 1963. He then attended Gardner-Webb College, studied math and physics at UNC Chapel Hill, and earned a BS in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University.

He held various positions throughout his working career, the most notable being administrator of the family's business, Haven In The Hills nursing home. He took great care to ensure the residents were well cared for, and performed patient care and facility tasks, along with administrative duties.

Ted was an exceptionally considerate  and kind person, and his family often went to him for help and advice. He loved to recount funny stories and jokes. His family fondly remembers him relaxing in a rocking chair, with cats nearby. He was a fun grandfather, and to his grandchildrens' delight, spent countless hours on the floor joining in their play. He was a talented artist, and his pictures adorned cards and pictures for family members.

His hobbies included the study of physics, higher level math, and electromagnetic waves. Prior to the popularity of cable, he was a whiz at configuring TV antennae setups for family members and the residents of the family run nursing home.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 46 years, Mitsuko Hunt; three children, Theodore Michael Hunt of Charlotte, Judith Hunt Ryan and her husband Wayne, of Forest City, and Eric Hunt and his wife Kelsey of San Diego, CA; his twin brother, Heber Hunt of Golden Valley; his sister, Carol Hunt Shanks and her husband David, of Charlotte; there are five grandchildren, Eva Ryan, James Ryan, and Daniel Ryan all of Forest City, and Oliver Hunt and Teddy Hunt of San Diego; a niece, Lindsay Shanks of Charlotte; and nephew, Edward Shanks of Clayton.

An informal, drop in style time of remembrance open to the community will be held at The Haven, site of the former Haven in the Hills nursing home, from 2pm until 4 pm Saturday, July 1, 2023. For more details, contact the family at huntjudith@gmail.com.
