Richard Allen Murray, 74

Mr. Richard Allen Murray, 74, of Bostic, died Monday, May 29, 2017 at Fair Haven Home, Forest City.
He was the son of the late Charlie and Ellen Smith Murray. Richard was a Master woodcarver, and though he referred to it as his "whittling", he was known throughout the nation and overseas for his art of woodcraft. He was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church and worked in textiles.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Pope Murray; his 2 sons, Joey Murray and wife Betty Jo, of Anderson, SC, and Charlie Murray and wife Ester, of Bostic; his 3 sisters, Malena Tate and Elaine Hubbard of Bostic, and Freida Goforth of Rutherfordton; a brother, Norris "Spud" Murray of Bostic; he was a loving grandfather to 5 grandchildren, Charlie Murray, Jr., Brooke Priester, Dakota Murray, Jessica Hernandez, and Alan Hernandez; and Richard's loving cat, Fluff.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Sandy Level Baptist Church. The Rev. David Barton and Rev. Robert Hensley will officiate.
