Richard Locke

Mr. Richard Locke, 63, of Golden Valley, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015.
He was the son of the late Riley and Violet Duncan Locke. He is survived by two daughters, Carrie Jo Locke of Virginia Beach, VA, and Jessica Brub of Golden Valley; two sisters, Deborah Ealey of Wapello, IA and Judith Clover of Sperry, IA; there are two grandchildren, Kaden Baker and Kenley Baker.
Richard was born in Burlington, IA and grew up on a farm in Mediapolis, IA.  His twin sister Debbie says he was an energetic child who enjoyed showing livestock in 4-H, riding horses and working.  His love for work began at age 11 when he started driving tractors for his father and neighbors.
At 13 he began participating in rodeos, where he competed in bull and horse riding, as well as calf-roping.  He roped anything he could – cattle, fence posts . . . his sisters.
In high school he played football and continued farming, while still maintaining good grades.  After graduation he enlisted in the Army National Reserves and attended college for diesel mechanics with his best friend Dennis.  They both anticipated working on semis but realized they loved driving them more.
He was a loving, funny and caring father.  He taught all those around him the importance of perseverance, responsibility and simplicity.  He will be greatly missed, but the wonderful memories made with him will always be cherished.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Golden Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Linda Stack Morgan will officiate.
Washburn & Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
