Mrs. Polly Fitch Rogers, 91, of Bostic, died Saturday, July 30, 2016.
Polly Fitch Rogers was born October 14, 1924 in Lake City, SC to William Abby & Daisy Fitch. Born on the eve of the depression, Polly was raised by her older sisters. She attended Columbia College in Columbia, SC.
Polly met the love of her life, Jack R. Rogers and they married August 11, 1946. Over the next 64 years the two of them enjoyed automobiles, community & church involvement, flowers, and raising two children, Mary Ann Rogers Johnson (Jeff) and Carson A. Rogers.
Polly somehow managed to get Jack involved in her "projects." Everything from garden club community beautification projects to Girl Scout and 4-H leadership. Her community activities resulted in her being named "Woman of the Year" in three different counties: Burke, Cumberland, and Rutherford. Jack preceded Polly into the presence of our Lord 3 years ago, so once more they are united in service and in love.
Polly & Jack both had a special talent with and love for children. This made them the perfect grandparents for Joshua S. (Sara H.) and Carson M. Johnson, Abby R. Finnan (Matt), and Amanda R. Greene (Bubba). Also Polly and Jack thoroughly enjoyed their three great grands as well, Jaden Rogers, Brielle Finnan, and Miles Johnson.
The Funeral will be conducted at 3:00 pm Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Salem United Methodist Church. The Rev. Melinda Penry and Rev. Ben Shepherd will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The Visitation will be from 1:30 pm until 2:45 pm Tuesday in the Salem UMC fellowship hall prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, PO Box 220, Bostic, NC 28018 or Abernathy Laurel, 900 Hall Activities, 102 Leonard Avenue, Newton, NC 28658.
Washburn & Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
