Mrs. Mildred Gurley McCurry, 78, of Spindale, died Saturday, December 31, 2011 at her residence.
She was the widow of Miles McCurry, and daughter of the late Jim and Maymie Gurley. Mildred was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Ray Gurley. She was a lifelong member of Golden Valley United Methodist Church, and was a seamstress at Tanner before her retirement.
She is survived by four daughters, Martha Robinson and her husband Robert, of Forest City, Cindy McCurry of Spindale, Betty Thrift of Rutherfordton, and Donna Hensley and her husband Todd, of Ellenboro; two sons, Norman McCurry and his wife Sheila of Union Mills, and James McCurry of Sunshine; two sisters, Virginia Price of Casar, and Pauline McCurry of Bostic; two brothers, Glen Gurley of Glen Alpine, and Ed Gurley of Golden Valley; there are eight grandchildren, Tina Earls, David Gurley, Travis Gurley, Dustin McCurry, Sarah McCurry, Amanda Thrift, Jamie Tavernia, and Adam Hensley; there are six great grandchildren, Jeremiah Earls, Havyn McCurry, Hanna McCurry, Rosa Gurley, Tristen Gurley, and Ali Tavernia.
The Funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday,January 4, 2012 at Golden Valley United Methodist Church. Rev. Linda Stack Morgan and Rev. Don Freshour are to officiate. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The Visitation will be from 5 PM until 8 PM Tuesday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.
