Mike Hutchins, 64

Michael Garland “Mike” Hutchins, age 64 of Ellenboro, went to his eternal home on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.  Mike was born on January 23, 1959, in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Garland Hutchins and Lucille Hudson Hutchins.

Mike was a graduate of R-S Central High School in 1977. He was known as a hard worker and went directly into the workforce following graduation. He loved cars, especially red Corvettes and white GMC trucks. He turned his passion into a career and worked in the automotive industry in Rutherford County for over 45 years, including Joe Water’s Honda, Charles Watkins Automotive, and then over the last 20 years at Moore’s Auto Sales. Mike enjoyed working at Moore’s Auto Sales in Forest City where his friends became family. He was known for being kind and always taking care of his customers. 

Mike was a member of Florence Baptist Church where he enjoyed serving as an usher and greeting people. He loved his family and enjoyed taking vacations together, especially to Ocean Lakes Family Campground and Walt Disney World. Mike also loved his two companions—his Corgi, Lucy, and Labrador, Bear. 

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sheila Glover Hutchins; his daughters Haley Hutchins Blalock and husband Ian of Ellenboro, and Emily Hutchins Shytle and husband Kamron of Ellenboro; brothers Ronald Hutchins and wife Pam, and Donald Hutchins and wife Melanie; his three grandsons, Leyton Blalock, Hudson Blalock, Leo Blalock, and his soon to be granddaughter, Oakland Shytle, who were the loves of his life.

Mike adored his family and always bragged about how much he loved his three girls. Mike valued his family over everything and worked hard to provide them with everything they needed and so much more. He then continued the same amount of spoiling to his grandchildren who were given all the popsicles and potato chips their hearts desired. 

The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Florence Baptist Church. The Reverends Daniel Selman and Tonya Garrison will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Baptist cemetery. Pallbearers are Ronald Hutchins, Donald Hutchins, Shawn Moore, Ronnie Moore, Ian Blalock, and Kamron Shytle.

The visitation will be at Florence Baptist Church, Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. 

At the request of Mike, memorials may be made to his grandchildren’s educational savings account, as education for this grandchildren was very important to him. Please make checks payable to Sheila Hutchins with a memo of "Educational Savings", mail to 1473 Hollis Road, Ellenboro, NC 28040.
