Mrs. Judy Landis Philbeck, 65, of Salem Church Road, Bostic, died Thursday, October 13, 2011 at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Claude and Modene Hoyle Landis. She retired from the Ellenboro Elementary School Cafeteria after 29 years of service, and worked in the cafeteria of the South Mountain Christian Camp for 30 years. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church, where she served as church treasurer for 21 years. A member of Cherry Mountain Fire Department for 19 years, she served as department secretary and as secretary for the Rutherford County Firefighter's Honor Guard. She was past President of the Woodmen of the World Ellenboro lodge.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Philbeck; two sons, Chuck Philbeck and David Philbeck, both of Bostic; a brother, Fred Landis of Forest City; three grandchildren, Christin Philbeck, Matthew Hamrick, and Wesley Philbeck.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Mountain View Baptist Church. Rev. Clayton Hartsell and Rev. Gary Smith will officiate, and Joe Hardin will provide a eulogy. The burial will follow in the church cemetery with Rutherford County Firefighter's Association Chaplain Rev. Jerry Ruppe providing fire service honors at the grave.
The Visitation will be from 5 PM until 8 PM Saturday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home, and at other times the family will gather at the residence on Salem Church Road, Bostic. The Rutherford County Firefighter's Honor Guard will serve during visitation and service hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
