Hugh Carson Calton, Sr., 87

Mr. Hugh Carson Calton, Sr., 87, of Forest City, died Monday, November 21, 2016.
He was the widower of Freida Sweat Calton. Hugh was the son of the late Witt and Margaret Bostic Calton, and was also preceded in death by siblings, Bob Calton, Frances Query, Jessie Harrill, Ken Calton, Bill Calton, and Louise Stikeleather. He was a 1947 graduate of Cool Springs High School and a 1951 graduate of NC State, with a B.S. in Animal Husbandry, and remained an avid Wolfpack fan his entire life. He was a 2nd LT. in the Army from 1951-1953 and stationed in Germany. Hugh owned City Tire Service in Hendersonville from 1962-1994. He was an active member of Concord Baptist Church, a member of the Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, and a volunteer with the Bostic Lincoln Center. He was a dedicated member of the "Do Nothing Club". Hugh loved his family and friends and was happiest when he was helping others.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Brisendine and husband Scott, of Calhoun, GA; his son, Carson Calton and wife Cathy, of Hendersonville; a sister, Barbara Mooney of Concord; there are 4 grandchildren, Leah Brisendine, David Brisendine, Julia Calton, and Adam Calton; a special person in his life, Audrey Randlett; 2 sisters-in-law, Sue Calton of Spartanburg, and Martha Calton of Denver, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm Friday, November 25, 2016 at the Historic Train Depot on 7th Avenue in Hendersonville.
The Funeral will be conducted at 2:30 pm Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Concord Baptist Church. The Rev. Travis Laflin and Dr. Jim Whitlow will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites rendered by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Pallbearers are Jim Stikeletter, Larry Stikeletter, Malcolm Stikeletter, Len Query, Wayne Calton, and Cuyler Calton.
A  Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until 2:15 pm Saturday at the church prior to the service.
