Fannie Lee Butler Hoyle, 91, of Golden Valley, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at her home.
Born on July 19, 1931 in Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late John Butler and Laura Guffey Butler. Fannie was a mountain woman through and through, possessing strength and grit that were larger than the mountains she loved. Mountains by nature are harsh and challenging but they also command respect and invite us in. Among the mountains we can be ourselves. Like the mountains, Fannie lived a challenging and sometimes harsh life; however, she always invited others in with open arms and without judgement earning great respect and admiration. When in her presence, one could simply be themselves. Because of these qualities, she was known as a mother and friend to all in the community. In her later years, she was most content during her time spent in the mountains taking rides on the roads she called home. She also especially loved and enjoyed her yearly trip with the family to Cades Cove. Fannie loved gardening, canning, and cooking to provide for her family, friends and neighbors. Her green beans and fried chicken were legendary and loved by all that were lucky enough to taste them. She had a strong passion and love for bluegrass, gospel, and old country music and enjoyed listening to and singing these songs. Even with declining health, she could beautifully sing her favorite songs word for word and right on tune.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Lee Hoyle; 10 sisters, Erma Sue B. White, Eloise B. White, Jeanette B. Turner, Pauline B. McCurry, Shirley B. Philbeck, Mildred B. McNeilly, Brunie Hunt Johnson, Maudie B. Padgett, Zona B. Smith, and Lona B.
