Mr. Elmer Lee Honeycutt, 75, of the Hopewell Community, died Saturday, August 24, 2019 at his residence.
He was the son of the late Frank and Etta Hughes Honeycutt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Ray Grier; a grandson, Trevor Long; his sisters, Estal Byrd and Tina Haseltine Odom; and 2 brothers, F.D. Honeycutt and Delma Gene Honeycutt. He was a member of Walls Baptist Church; the Hollis Masonic Lodge #535 and the Ruritan Club of Hopewell. He was retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections with 26 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Thelma Jean Honeycutt; his daughter, Hope Rochelle Long of Ellenboro; 3 sons, Darin Gene Honeycutt of Kingsport, TN, Ronnie Grier and wife Terry, and Kenny Grier and wife Tammy, all of Ellenboro; his brother, Ronald Eugene Honeycutt; 2 granddaughters, Molly Grier and Marla Baughman; 4 grandsons, Nolan Long, Adam Honeycutt, Scott Grier and Nick Grier; there are 11 great grandchildren.
The Funeral will be conducted at 3:00 pm Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Walls Baptist Church. The Rev. David Philbeck will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites.
The Visitation will be from 1:15 pm until 2:45 pm Thursday at the church prior to the service.
