Betty Jean Melton

Mrs. Betty Jean Melton, 82, of Bostic, died Monday, May 26, 2014.
She was the widow of Gilbert J. Melton, and daughter of the late Kenneth and Johnnie Mae Freeman Melton, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Ginger Melton Harrison; and a brother, Norris Melton. Betty retired from Sunshine Elementary School as a cafeteria worker. She was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Melton Penson and her husband Norris, of Bostic; two sons, Mike Melton and his wife Libby, of Bostic, and Wayne Melton and his wife Yvonne, of Ellenboro; a sister, Ruby Melton Philbeck: there are six grandchildren, Sonny Penson and his wife Crystal, Amanda P. Freeman and her husband Benson, Michelle Melton and Chris Moore, Nichole M. Whiteside and her husband Rayshawn, Wayne Melton, Jr., and Misty Melton; there are ten great grandchildren, Jacob Penson, Emma Penson, Creed Freeman, Ranger Freeman, Jadaka Melton, Zoie Melton, Tayshaun Whiteside, Genesis Whiteside, Clive Moore, and Donna Harrill; there are many nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends.  
The Funeral will be conducted at 4:00 pm Friday, May 30, 2014 at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. Rev. David Hawkins, Rev. Paul White, Jr., and Rev. Danny McCain will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Sonny Penson, Jacob Penson, Chris Moore, Benson Freeman, Lloyd Melton, Kevin Harrison, Adam Blecher, and Bob Freeman.
The Visitation will be from 5 pm until 7 pm Thursday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service.
Memorials may be made to the Cedar Grove UMC Cemetery Fund, 160 Toney Road, Bostic, NC 28018.
