Mrs. Bertha Belle Cochran Miller, 94, a resident of the Fair Haven Home in Bostic, was received into Heaven on July 5, 2013. She was born on October 10, 1918. She lived in the Washburn Community for 60 years. She was married to the late G. B. Miller for 59 years. She was a retired retail store manager and textile worker. She was a lifelong resident of Rutherford County. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bostic. She was a Sunday School teacher sharing God's lessons for 75 years. She sang in the choir, and was very active in many Christian activities in her church, community, and county. She was a 4-H leader for many years and was a very active member of the Washburn Community Club. She loved to make jams, jellies, pickles, squash relish, etc. and shared them with everyone. She was known far and wide for her delicious pecan pies.
In addition to her husband G.B., she was preceded in death by her parents, John and Minnie Cochran and 6 brothers, Guy, Ham, Zeb, Fred, Johnny Ray, and Horace Cochran; four sisters, Pearl C. Cobb, Estelle C. Russell Davis, Blanche C. Hutchins, and an infant sister; and many cousins as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her children, Geary & Jackie Miller of Lawrenceville, GA, Marjorie and Steve Rothell of Bostic, and Max and Susan Miller of Shelby; a special nephew, Johnny Cochran of Spindale; she is also survived by 7 grandchildren and their families including 12 great grandchildren, Kathy & Brad Van Cleave, Ashton & Kristen of Magee, MS: Kandi & Scott Gibson, Andrew, Joey & TJ of Princeton, IA,; Eric & Ramona Rothell, Wyatt & Sarah of St. Cloud, FL; Joy Rothell Whiteside, Olivia, Victoria & Addison of Bostic; Walter & Heather Miller of Durham; Becca & Will Simmons, Anna-Kate & Benjamin of Raleigh; and Amanda Miller of Raleigh; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 11:00 am Monday, July 8, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Bostic. Rev. Clay Earle, Rev. Amanda Miller, and Rev. Walter Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eric Rothell, Rick Edney, Walter Miller, Randy Jolley, Will Simmons, and Bill Yount.
The Visitation will be from 4 pm until 6 pm Sunday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service, and at other times the family will gather at the residence at 2809 Piney Mountain Church Road, Bostic.
The family would like to thank the loving family of the Fair Haven Home including the management, staff, residents, and visitors for their many acts of kindness.
