Mr. Albert Dowell Lancaster, 95, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 at Hospice of Laurens County in Clinton, SC. He was born July 11, 1916 in Cliffside, NC, he was son of the late Odie Bates Lancaster and William Lancaster. He was married for 62 years to his beloved wife Frances Sisk Lancaster, who died in 2003.
He served in the US Army during WWII in the European theatre, wading ashore at Omaha Beach and fighting with Patton's Third Army. He received four major battle stars.
In 1953 he moved his family to Clinton, SC where he was a cotton buyer for Clinton Mills, Incorporated for 28 years. He was also a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years, serving as Sunday School Teacher and assistant choir director.
Upon retirement, he and his wife returned to North Carolina, settling down in Bostic and becoming members of Salem United Methodist Church in Bostic.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl L. Riser and her husband Kerry of Pauline, SC; his son, Brent D. Lancaster and companion Dot Boyter of Clinton, SC; two grandchildren, Laurie Riser and Matthew Riser, both of Simpsonville, SC.
The Funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday,February 18, 2012 at Salem United Methodist Church. Rev. Laurie Knoespel will officiate and James Ingram will provide a Eulogy. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Eternal Hills Memorial Park, with the Rutherford County Honor Guard providing Military Rites.
The Visitation will be from 6 PM until 8 PM Friday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.
